This is one of the original blast furnaces, dating back to 1859. It produced 11,000 tons of iron from coke, and was the first bituminous coke furnace operating in Pittsburgh. It now stands, surrounded by fountains and colored lights, in the courtyard at Station Square.
This is a night view of the Edgar Thomson Steel Works, in Braddock, PA, which has been in continuous operation since 1875. The first steel ever produced in Pittsburgh was milled here, and Thomson mill workers began the modern labor movement with the Homestead strike of 1892. Over 100 years later, it is still an amazing site to behold.
The main entrance to the museum, which is the largest museum in the USA dedicated to the work of a single artist. The smiling visage of Marilyn Monroe is visible through the front door.
