Black & White Night

This was the image that first got me excited about night photography. It is one of my earliest long-exposure images, captured one evening from the North Shore of Pittsburgh.

After The Storm

Clinton Furnace at Station Square

This is one of the original blast furnaces, dating back to 1859. It produced 11,000 tons of iron from coke, and was the first bituminous coke furnace operating in Pittsburgh. It now stands, surrounded by fountains and colored lights, in the courtyard at Station Square.

Smithfield Light Trails

Lights from the moving cars leave trails in this long exposure, captured from the median of the Smithfield Street bridge.

Night Bridge

Sunset From 31st Street

This is a sunset that I captured from the 31st Street bridge. The skies had been threatening rain all afternoon, but at the last minute I grabbed my camera gear, and arrived just in time to capture this beautiful sky. These colors only lasted for a few minutes, and then they were gone.

Homestead Steel Works Stacks

The stacks (actually venting stacks) on the site of the former Homestead Steel Works, in Homestead, PA. Today, they are one of the few surviving remnants of the once massive mill that. at its peak, produced one third of the steel in the USA. These stacks sit between an access road and a parking lot for the Waterfront, a shopping center that was built on the site of the mill.

Night Light Panorama

This is a 7 shot panorama that I captured from Mount Washington. The lights from PNC Park and Heinz Field illuminate the left side of the sky, while the city lights cast a golden hue over the rest of the cityscape.

Underneath The Bridge

The Fort Pitt bridge winds into downtown Pittsburgh, at sunset.

Sunset From The Rooftop

A panoramic view of the Pittsburgh skyline, as seen from a rooftop in Deutschtown. It is unusual to see a wide, unobstructed view from this angle, and I like the way it turned out.

Southside View

This is a night view of part of the downtown skyline, captured near the bottom of the Duquesne Incline. The train tracks just beyond the fence in the foreground are very active - two trains passed during the few minutes I was taking this shot.

Edgar Thomson Works

This is a night view of the Edgar Thomson Steel Works, in Braddock, PA, which has been in continuous operation since 1875. The first steel ever produced in Pittsburgh was milled here, and Thomson mill workers began the modern labor movement with the Homestead strike of 1892. Over 100 years later, it is still an amazing site to behold.

The "O"

This is the Original Hot Dog Shop, AKA the "O", on Forbes Avenue on the University Of Pittsburgh campus. Apparently the driver of the passing bus wasn't hungry enough to stop, but thousands of students and visitors have visited this Oakland landmark over the last 50 years.

Sunset Spray

The fountain at Point State Park, a few minutes after sunset. Heinz Field is visible on the right, and the top of the West End Bridge can be seen through the fountain spray on the left. This is a 3-shot HDR photograph.

Night Cathedral

Despite wind and rain on my camera and lens, I managed to capture this somewhat spooky image of the Cathedral Of Learning at the University Of Pittsburgh. The sky looks purple from the storm, and the long exposure.

The Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh, PA

The main entrance to the museum, which is the largest museum in the USA dedicated to the work of a single artist. The smiling visage of Marilyn Monroe is visible through the front door.
